DESCRIPTION Lajos Sváby Abádszalók, 1935 - 2020. Painter. In his secondary school years, he trained at the free school of Endre Fenyő A. In 1960 he graduated from the College of Fine Arts, where his masters were János Kmetty and Bertalan Pór. From 1975 he taught at the college, where he was rector from 1991-1995. In 1995 he was awarded an honorary doctorate from Kingston University, London. He has been exhibiting since 1961. A selection of his solo exhibitions: Műcsarnok Chamber Hall (1967), Műcsarnok (1972, 1977), Uitz Hall (Dunaújváros, 1975, 1994), Szolnok Gallery (1980), Tihany Museum (1983), Ernst Museum (1984), Móra Ferenc Gallery (Szeged, 1985), Berlin (1987), Csontváry Hall (1989), Körmend Gallery (1994), Castle Museum (Simontornya, 1998), Contemporary Art Gallery (Dunaszerdahely, 2001). Group exhibitions. Amsterdam, Germany, Austria, Switzerland). He also works on mural commissions. His work has been awarded numerous prizes: the Derkovits Scholarship (1963-66), the Munkácsy Prize (1973), Merited Artist (1985), the Kossuth Prize (1995), the Hungarian Art Award (2000).
