Tibor Duray Painter

1912 - 1988

Painter, graphic artist, medalist. Between 1933 and 1936 he studied art at the Aba-Novák Free School. In 1937-38 he worked in Italy, in 1943-44 in Transylvania, and in 1947-48 in France. In the second half of the 1930s, he worked at the Szolnok Artists' Camp. Since 1934 he has been an exhibiting artist. He has had solo exhibitions at the Ernst Museum, the Kunsthalle, the Fényes Adolf Hall, the Fókusz Gallery, the Rózsa Miklós Salon, the Csók Gallery, in Győr, Hódmezővásárhely, Székesfehérvár, Pápá, Hatvan, Veszprém, Szerenc. From 1934 he regularly took part in the Spring Salon of the Szinyei Society, from 1940 in exhibitions of the KUT, the Ernst Museum, the Műcsarnok, the Hungarian National Gallery, in several provincial cities, in 1938, in 1963 in Rome, in 1947 in Paris. He created sgraffito and stained glass windows for many public buildings. Awards. In the mid-1930s, he painted portraits and portraits of poor people. His early works were characterised by a lyrical realism. In the 1940s, his art became more and more general, expressive, dramatic and concise. In the second half of the 1960s he began to create monumental panels and glass blocks that summed up his ambitions. Several of his works have been exhibited in the Hungarian National Gallery, the Petőfi Literary Museum, the István Király Museum in Székesfehérvár, the Janus Pannonius Museum in Pécs and the Damjanich Museum in Szolnok.
